Under-18s close in on final spot

THE CLL under-18s recorded a seven-wicket victory over the Bolton Association at Walsden to make it two group wins out of two in the J W Lees Lancashire Inter-League Trophy.
Victory at the Manchester Association on August 9 would clinch their place in the final.
The Bolton Association reached 151 for two and looked set to record a challenging total.
Nichol and Bhajuani both scored 65 in a 119 partnership for the third wicket.
But the CLL produced an inspired recovery to dismiss the Association for 208.
Littleborough’s Danny Jones claimed four for 27, while Tom Hardman and Mohammed Abid picked up a couple of wickets apiece.
The CLL reached their target with ease, making 214 for three with 25 balls to spare.
Rochdale’s Adam Smith and Werneth’s Matthew Taylor put on 74 runs for the second wicket, while Heywood pair Hardman and Danny Pawson steered the CLL to victory.
A FINE batting display saw the CLL regain the Warburton Cup when they defeated the Bolton League at Farnworth Social Circle in the annual second-team clash.
Ashton’s Mark Adrian and Littleborough’s Robert Whitemoss both claimed four wickets as the Bolton League were bowled out for a respectable 221.
The CLL replied with 223 for three, Unsworth’s Asif Saeed top scoring with 83.
Saeed and Crompton’s Alan Whiston put the foundations in place with an opening stand of 104.
Clifton’s Ian Morris (52 not out) and Whitemoss (36 not out) steered the CLL to victory.
OLDHAM won by 27 runs at Royton in the CLL under-18 Whittaker Cup, Bilal Hussain hitting 50 out of 143 for nine.
Matthew Hodson claimed five wickets for 37 for the home side, who were dismissed for 116 in reply.
Werneth are second following victory at Unsworth.
Joe Taylor took five for 23 as Unsworth were bowled out for 193.
Werneth were indebted to a half-century from James Rothwell as they made 194 for seven.
Heywood remain the runaway leaders after a 63-run victory at Rochdale.
In the other games played, Middleton beat Walsden by 20 runs while Milnrow defeated Littleborough by eight wickets.
