Heyside go clear

HEYSIDE ‘A’ made light work of their ‘B’ team to take another step towards the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s under-15s title.

They enjoyed an emphatic 10-wicket victory against their Little Hey Street colleagues to stretch eight points clear of nearest rivals Shaw.

Set a modest 89 to win, openers Matthew Robinson and James Lord hit 51 and 33 respectively in just 12.2 overs.

Shaw need Heyside, who are unbeaten so far, to slip up in their remaining game of the season if they are to stand any hope of clinching the championship.

The Holebottom Clough outfit lost ground after their match at Droylsden was called off. Last weekend’s rain left the Oakfield surface unplayable.

Shaw’s inactivity allowed Saddleworth ‘A’ to draw level in second place after they registered a comfortable victory over Glodwick at Warren Lane.

Taking first knock, Saddleworth scored 113 for four. Sam Rhodes led the way on 36.

A depleted Glodwick side crashed to 63 all out in reply.

Harry Ripley’s 27 not out lifted Austerlands to 105 for six at home to Uppermill, who were limited to 69 for nine.

Andrew Cadd claimed four of the wickets to fall for 26 runs.

Moorside recorded only second win of the season at Saddleworth ‘B’ — but they did it in style.

The hosts slumped to 56 all out, Aaron Redmond taking three for 15 from 2.4 overs.

J Boulter claimed three for six from five overs for Saddleworth, but he couldn’t prevent Moorside from achieving a five-wicket win.

Shaw ‘B’ fielded six under-13s in a surprise 42-run defeat of mid-table Bamford Fieldhouse.

Things looked to be going Bamford’s way after they restricted the home side to a moderate 74 for six. Elliott Birtwistle scored 26.

But opening bowlers Birtwistle and Connor Hamilton soon had the visitors in trouble at 21 for five.

Then it was over to the under-13s contingent to end Bamford’s resistance for a paltry 32. Adam Wardle picked up two for three from his two overs.

Birtwistle completed a fine evening’s work with two sharp catches in the slips.
