AUSTERLANDS will meet Uppermill in the final of this season’s under-17s Romida Trophy in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
Uppermill were already assured of their place after a dramatic last-over victory against Droylsden, and the Thorpe Lane outfit’s defeat of Stayley was equally as exciting.
Adam Sunderland and Greg Scholes were at the top of their game for the under-17s, who are chasing a league and cup double.
Sunderland made a fine 41 out of a total of 108 in the last four tie.
Stayley required 10 runs off the last over with one wicket remaining. The target had been reduced to eight with three balls left when Lee Evans, attempting a six, was caught on the edge of the boundary.
Scholes was the chief destroyer with excellent figures of five for 25.
The date and venue for the final has yet to be decided.
The Austerlands club are on course for a hat-trick of junior silverware as the under-15s are in the Leicester Shield final.
They are at home to Shaw ‘A’ on Monday, August 31.
PRIDE is at stake for the Saddleworth and District Cricket League under-18s on Sunday.
Unable to qualify for the final of the Inter-League Colts Trophy, Steve Taylor’s side complete their group programme at home to the North Lancs and South Cumbria League.
After defeats to the Bolton League and the Lancashire County League, they will be hoping to round off 2009 with a confidence-boosting win at Well-i-Hole (start 1.30pm).
Saddleworth League: S Taylor (Saddleworth, capt), D Gill (Greenfield), M Bird (Uppermill), A Uppal, J Barnett (both Droylsden), Joe Malloy (wkt), A Sunderland (Austerlands), M Jones (Stayley), C Burn, J Wilson (Bamford Fieldhouse).
