Date published: 02 September 2009
PAUL BEAL saluted the Saddleworth and District Cricket League under-13s representative side after they completed their Peak Trophy programme.
The team manager was delighted with the youngsters’ commitment in the defeats by the Derby and Cheshire League and CLL.
Thanks to a fine 50 from Joe Smith-Butler, the S&DCL posted 112 from 30 overs against the Derbyshire and Cheshire League.
Three quick wickets raised hopes of victory, but the hosts regrouped to deny Beal’s boys.
Charlie Price made 30 in the S&DCL’s score 71 off 20 overs against the CLL, who reached their target for the loss of four wickets.
Stand-out performers for the S&DCL were wicketkeeper Callum Openshaw, batsman Ellis Heliere and bowler Farakh Sanghir.
