CUP OF CHEER: Heyside under-15s show off their title trophy.
Title delight for Heyside after run blitz
HEYSIDE under-15s have been crowned the Saddleworth and District Cricket League champions — and it cost the club £100!
They made short work of Saddleworth in the title play-off at Little Hey Street after openers James Lord, who retired on 52 not out, and 43 from Matthew Robinson laid the foundations for a mammoth total.
Heyside, after being asked to bat first, blitzed 161 for one from their 20 overs. Paul Mawson (35) and Daniel Robertson (26) continued the onslaught.
Saddleworth, who finished level on points with their hosts at the top of the table, managed only 44 in reply.
Sam Wardle was the chief destroyer with stunning figures of six for 14. Robinson took two for six, while there was a wicket apiece for Robertson and Lord.
Both Lord and Wardle picked up £50 for their individual efforts.
The money, which is for cricket equipment, is given by the club if a player scores a half-century or claims five wickets in a match for the first time.
Heyside had to dish out £100 a day later when Stuart Moore scored his maiden century for the senior team against Glodwick.
AUSTERLANDS will scoop the under-17s double on Saturday if they beat Uppermill in the Romida Trophy final (start 1.15pm).
The Thorpe Lane outfit claimed the league title with an emphatic win over Heyside.
Requiring just 41 for victory, Austerlands, who will have home advantage this weekend, passed the post with all 10 wickets intact.
