Radcliffe retain championship

OLDHAM Amateur Swimming Club had to settle for second place when they hosted the Central Lancashire Junior Jubilee Final, featuring the league’s top four teams.

The final, held at Oldham Sports Stadium, brought together Oldham, Royton, Radcliffe and Howe Bridge Aces swimming clubs and proved to be an highly-competitive affair.

Radcliffe retained their championship title with 110 points to edge out Oldham (105), Royton (102) and Howe Bridge (94).

In the 10 years age group, Oldham’s Fleur Mitchell was the winner of the one-length breaststroke event, with Dylan Arzoni claiming creditable second places in both the butterfly and freestyle races.

Kyle Clegg claimed a brace of victories in the 11 years and under two-length breaststroke and butterfly, with Michael Entwistle coming second in the freestyle. For the girls, Olivia Askew claimed double success in the freestyle and butterfly events.

In the 12 years and under age group, Caitlin Wareing was winner of the two-length backstroke and added a second place in the butterfly. Team-mate Beth Peak weighed in with two second places in the freestyle and breaststroke.

Jessica Fullalove was the winner of the two-length backstroke in the 13 years and under group, adding a hat-trick of second places in the freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly events.

Oldham dominated proceedings in the 11 years and under relays, with the girl’s team of Natasha Sabel, Olivia Askew, Kiandra Basnett and Sara Loft winning the freestyle and medley as did the boys

team of Sammy Ireland, Kyle Clegg, Dylan Arzoni and Michael Entwistle.

The 13 year and under girls team of Caitlin Wareing, Beth Peak, Rebecca Lewis and Jessica Fullalove claimed second place in the freestyle medley.

The final events of the evening were the Cannon freestyle relays comprising of one swimmer from each of the age groups. The girls team of Amy Cunningham, Olivia Askew, Caitlin Wareing and Jessica Fullalove stormed to victory while the boys - Dylan Arzoni, Kyle Clegg, Sam Marsden and Peter Cunningham - claimed a spirited second place.
