Forward power

AFTER a string of three defeats in a row, Oldham St Anne’s under-11s got back on track with a 36-10 defeat of New Springs Lions in poor conditions.

Saints’ bustling forwards ruled the day, with prop forwards Oliver Depetrillo and Thomas Armstrong coming up with hat-tricks for the home side, the former earning himself the boy-of-the-match title.

Regan Croft scored the other St Anne’s try with a superb jinking run through the defence.
Thomas Taylor earned the top tackler award and new recruit Ben Fletcher had a fine debut on what was a good day all round for the Saints.

o LOW on numbers but high on enthusiasm, Saddleworth Rangers under-12s took their game to Crosfields before going down to a 10-0 defeat.

Digging in deep to excel in a non-stop, end-to-end game, Rangers were unlucky to concede an early try but fought back undaunted.

The Adams twins, Lewis and James, had outstanding matches in defence, not missing a tackle.

Rangers were also strong in offence with Jacob Ford making the most of every advantage with quick play-the-balls and penalties to gain precious ground.

Crosfields managed to grab a second try late in the second half which was converted, but it was a good effort by the visitors in Warrington.

Finn Wall was outstanding and earned the man-of-the-match award, Lewis Adams was top tackler and twin James picked up the coaches’ award.

Rangers under-nines performed well in wet conditions against a well-drilled Clock Face side before losing by four tries to three.

Strong running from Elijah Wolstenholme, Tom Healy, Josh Yarwood and Ben Forster was backed up by good defence from Brad Jinks, Andrew Goodwin, Seth Mawson and Adam Howarth.

Wolstenholme grabbed two and Healy one in the narrow defeat.

IT was another disappointing weekend for the club’s under-eights, suffering a second defeat in as many weeks, this time to Leigh Miners Rangers.

Saddleworth only managed to score one try through Robbie Coates, with Elliot Noble taking the man-of-the-match award in poor weather conditions.
