Oldham bridge 20-year gap

OLDHAM Amateur Swimming Club lifted the Bob Foden Memorial Trophy at the Castle Leisure Centre, Bury.

It was their first success in the event since 1989.

The freestyle relay event comprised seven girls and seven boys and saw Oldham romp home ahead of Royton and Swinton.

The winning team was Olivia Green, Dylan Arzoni, Amy Cunningham, Daniel Fearnley, Sara Loft, Michael Entwistle, Olivia Askew, Kyle Clegg, Rhiannon Prestage, Harry Entwistle, Hannah Clegg, Ash Ratchford, Vicky Burgess and Blake Wilson.

Oldham members also had a successful time in the Central Lancashire Warburtons Age Group Gala, collecting 25 gold medals, 25 silver and 18 bronze.

Dylan Arzoni made a stunning debut in the nine-years’ section, winning gold in the 200m individual medley, and 50m backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.

Fleur Mitchell struck gold in the girls’ 10-years 50m breaststroke, while the same age group saw Daniel Fearnley collect silver in the 50m freestyle and bronze in the backstroke.

Olivia Askew won gold in the 11-years 200m individual medley, 100m freestyle and butterfly, and 50m freestyle, butterfly and backstroke.

And she also took silver in the 100m backstroke and 50m breaststroke, and bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

In the same age section, Kyle Clegg landed gold in the 100m metre freestyle and 200m individual medley, and collected silver in the 100m backstroke and butterfly, and 50m backstroke and freestyle.

Caitlin Wareing won bronze in the 12-years’ 100m breaststroke, while Rhiannon Prestage was a gold medal winner in the 13-years’ 50m freestyle and took silver in the 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and backstroke, plus bronze in the 100m backstroke - an event which saw Peter Cunningham take silver.

Harry Entwistle collected gold medals in the 14-years’ 200m individual medley, 100m breaststroke and freestyle, and 50m breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle.

He also took silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 100m metre butterfly and backstroke.

Team-mate Ian Martin won silver in the 100m and 50m backstroke and freestyle, while Oliver Coverley collected bronze in the 50m butterfly.

Hannah Clegg clinched a hat-trick of gold medals in this age group, her successes coming in the 50m butterfly and 100m and 50m backstroke.

She added silver in the 200m individual medley and 100m breaststroke, plus bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

Ash Ratchford collected silver in the 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle, adding bronze medals in the 50m backstroke and butterfly, and 100m backstroke and freestyle.

And in the 16-years and over section, Blake Wilson struck gold in the 50m freestyle and breaststroke, adding bronze medals in the 200m individual medley and 100m butterfly and freestyle.

Also in this age group, Vicky Burgess won gold in the 50m backstroke, silver in the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly and freestyle, and bronze in the 200m individual medley and 100m backstroke and butterfly.
