Mud, sweat and cheers

CROMPTON House produced a dominant display in the senior boys section of the Oldham Schools Cross-country Championships at Chadderton Hall Park.
They won three of the four categories, while they finished joint third in the other in another highly-successful day of competition for the school.
Although the weather was dry and bright, underfoot conditions were as they should be for the annual cross-country test of endurance.
Running shoes and legs caked in mud were the norm as pupils were put through their paces in the quest for individual and team glory.
VICTORY
Crompton House came out on top in the Year Sevens category, ahead of Saddleworth and Hulme, and they followed up with victory in the Year Eights race. Saddleworth had to settle for runners-up again, with Failsworth in third.
Blue Coat got in on the act by clinching the Year Nines prize from North Chadderton, with Countill and Crompton House in a tie for third place.
But Crompton House were soon celebrating again as they completed a hat-trick in the Years 10/11 division.
Royton and Crompton recorded their first podium finish in the boys with second place, while Saddleworth had to settle for minor honours again in third.
