RUGBY: JACK SMYTH scored twice and claimed the boy-of-the-match award as Oldham St Anne’s under-10s defeated Wigan St Cuthberts 16-14.
Lewis Croft added the other Saints try, with Rob Charles and Sam Hall providing the conversions.
Despite a gallant effort, St Anne’s under-nines lost by 11 tries to eight against Thatto Heath.
Alfie Baldwin (two), Ben Ivell (two), Thomas Barnes, Daniel Fish, Samuel Jewitt and Luke Smith scored for Saints.
St Anne’s under-eights travelled to Thatto Heath and came back with a draw, both sides scoring four tries.
Saints did well to defend against a much bigger outfit and boasted some strong running from Bailey Rathmill, Michael Cashin, Owen Smith and Brandon Turner, with Patrick Connor distributing well from half-back.
Finbar Martindale scored after a strong run down the middle, with Daniel Nixon getting a hat-trick to pick up the man-of-the-match award.
The special award went to James Hall, most improved to Brandon Tierney and top tackler to Adam Pilling.
