RUGBY: SADDLEWORTH Rangers under-13s came from behind to record their first win of the season.

Trailing 16-6 at the interval, they scored four unanswered tries in the second half to defeat Wigan St Cuthberts 30-16.

Prop Joel Pearson put Rangers in front after a strong run from Joe Hodgson, but it was all Wigan up until the break.

It was a different story after the restart as Rangers found a good rhythm.

Cameron Cowin scored a try on debut, while there were further efforts from Matthew Rigby, Jack Brocklehurst and Pearson again. Brocklehurst converted all five tries.

James Tetlow and Jake Charnock put in big defensive effort for Rangers, who played the last few minutes with 10 men after Richard McCulloch was sent to the sin-bin for dissent.

Rangers under-10s touched down seven times in a 42-28 defeat of a plucky Accrington Wildcats team.

Try-scorers were Roebuck (two), Matt Fletcher, Finn Gallagher (two), Kristian Hilton and Guy Edwards. All seven conversions were successful.

Rangers under-12s were beaten 14-6 at Mayfield Mustangs in an exciting encounter.

Two tries early on left Rangers chasing the game, but they hit back through a Josh Hall score and they dominated the second half without being able to get their noses in front.

Rangers under-16s lost 28-4 at Moss Bank in their first match after a two-week lay-off.

The visitors put in a spirited display — they trailed 6-4 at half-time — but only had a John Deakin try for their efforts.

SHAW Rhinos under-16s went ahead against Crossfield — George Dyson’s try was converted by John Botham — before succumbing to a 14-6 defeat.

Hammad Hussain, Ben Jackson and man-of-match Daniel Hurley were outstanding for Rhinos, who conceded two converted tries and a penalty.
