FOOTBALL: OLDHAM Athletic Girls under-14s ruined Uppermill’s 19-game unbeaten run with a 4-3 win — but only after repelling a late fightback in this North Manchester Girls League clash.
Feiruz Abullah bagged a brace, and Jessica Bevan and Beth Marland got the others for Athletic, who were three goals to the good at the interval.
But ’Mill, who still lead the division, refused to throw in the towel and were pushing hard for an equaliser right up until the final whistle.
Ellen Bergin (two) and Jayme Butler-Jones scored for ’Mill.
Two goals from Megan Tindall and a Sian Greenwood effort clinched a 3-1 win for Oldham Athletic under-11s against Delemere Rangers.
The under-12s overcame Denton Girls 3-0 — Tia Jackson (two) and Olivia Stagg got the goals — but the under-13s were beaten 5-3 by Unicorn. Hayley Pickering, Capprice McSharry and Lidia Tunstall scored the consolation goals.
AFTER riding their luck in the first half — ’keeper Holly Hatton pulled off a series of excellent saves — Uppermill under-12s went on to beat Heyside Angels Clarets 1-0.
Captain Georgia Blackshaw got the all-important goal from long-range.
Two solo goals from Laura Barlow and a Lia Bottomley effort put the under-11s in command against Harpurhey United, who replied in the second half.
But captain Megan Barlow, with a trademark goal from distance, clinched a 4-1 win for Uppermill.
The under-13s were beaten 4-1 by Chadderton Park, but it was vast improvement on their previous meeting in the Knockout Cup. Park won 10-0 on that occasion.
Molly McEntee scored the consolation goal.
ROCS under-13s gave it their all — Abby Bennett scored a hat-trick — before they finally succumbed 4-3 to table-toppers Stockport.
The under-15s put in a sluggish display against Oldham Athletic, but they just did enough to come out on top 3-2.
On the mark for ROCS were Lauren Steel (two) and Rhema Mears, while Ashlie Ball and Chelsey Holden replied for Athletic.
But the under-16s impressed in a 3-0 defeat of Moston Juniors, with Faye Hardicre, Nicole Kenyon and Angela Fox getting the goals.
HEYSIDE Angels came out on top 3-2 — Blossom Halkyard (two) and Lucy Shaylor were on the mark — against Heyside Angels Clarets in the under-16s division.
A hat-trick from Beth Mellor earned a 3-1 win for Angels Clarets under-14s over Denton Girls, and trebles from Paige Rowland, Kayleigh Larkin and Leoni Harland clinched a 9-0 victory for Angels Blues under-14s against Chadderton Park.
Angels under-14s, with Kinsa Hmami (two), Natalie Giblin and Zoe Kelly getting the goals, brushed aside Mossley Juniors 4-0.
Ellie Doggett, Jade Hughes and Tanisha Williams scored for Angels Inter under-12s in a 3-0 defeat of Middleton Girls, while Angels Whites under-11s were held to a 2-2 draw by Harpurhey Demons. Ella Rigby and Molly Taylor found the Demons net.
CHADDERTON Park Girls under-14s were beaten 9-0 by Heyside Angels Blues.

Knockout Cup probe
OFFICIALS in the North Manchester Girls League have rearranged the semi-finals and finals of the Knockout Cup.
They were forced to act after it came to light that some clubs had fielded ineligible players.
Officials have had to go through every team sheet from previous rounds to make sure that players have played in the requisite number of league matches (five) to satisfy competition rules.
The semi-finals were due to take place last weekend, but they will now be staged on Saturday while the finals, which were expected to go ahead on December 12, will be played on January 9.
