Callum has an eye for a goal

FOOTBALL:

CALLUM LENIHAN just missed out on the perfect 10 for Chaddy End FC — but nine goals ain’t bad.

The young sharp-shooter was the scurge of Uppermill ‘A’ with a clinical display of finishing in the Tameside and District Mini-Soccer League clash.

Striker Callum (10), who attends St Luke’s Primary School in Chadderton, was the undoubted star of the show for the under-10s.

He now averages almost three goals a game this season, and mum Michelle said: “Even when he was at nursery he was into football.

“He did a picture of himself when he was about three and I wrote underneath it ‘self portrait of a future England captain’ — and it may come true one day.”

Callum, who is a Manchester United season-ticket holder, names Wayne Rooney, Patrice Evra and Darren Fletcher as his football heroes.

Oldham target double

OLDHAM under-15s are setting their sights on a Greater Manchester Schools’ League double in the New Year.

The town team are gearing up for a hectic spell of fixtures after the Christmas break.

In their only Greater Manchester Schools’ League game to date way back in September, they recorded a narrow 3-2 win against Macclesfield.

Stockport top the table and the Oldham youngsters face a tough task if they are to stake their claim for the title.

The teenagers have managed just two more games since September — both in the ESFA Inter Association Trophy — but they are in the quarter-finals of the Greater Manchester Schools’ County Cup, where they have received a plum home draw against Manchester. They had a bye in the first round.

The full quarter-final draw is: Oldham v Manchester; Trafford v Macclesfield; Bury v Salford or Stockport; Bolton v Tameside.
