ROYTON One made a flying start to the new Oldham Cricket Development Group under-11s Indoor League season.
In the first round of matches at the Millennium Centre, the Glebe Street outfit denied their Saddleworth counterparts by just four runs.
Taking first knock, the lads from Well-i-Hole compiled 225 for the loss of four wickets, but Royton replied with 229 for four.
The action started with Glodwick One recording a 35-run win over new boys Glodwick Alt, who are made up of players from the Alt Primary School.
Nathan Connolly top-scored with 16 as Glodwick totalled 243 for six from their six overs.
In reply, Glodwick Alt were restricted to 210 for four. Josh Brown claimed two wickets for no runs in his one over.
The final match of the evening at the Millennium Centre saw Woodhouses prove too strong for Heyside.
’House made 241 for six, while Heyside fell nine runs short of victory on 233.
At Oldham Sports Centre, Shaw piled up 291 for one against an Uppermill team featuring mainly under-nines.
Aaron Birtwistle led the way with 27 and, alongside Matthew Ashfield, plundered 39 from just 16 balls.
Birtwistle was equally as impressive with the ball in his hand — he took three for seven in his one over — as Uppermill finished on 187.
Glodwick Two met Royton Two and some excellent batting set up an opening-day victory for the Warren Street outfit.
Losing one wicket in a total of 248, Glodwick then restricted their opponents to 236 for three.
In the other fixture, Saddleworth Two, who made 257 for two, overcame Austerlands (249 for five).
