FOOTBALL:
HEYSIDE JFC under-11s are through to the quarter-finals of the County Cup — and they smashed a proud unbeaten record in the process.
The youngsters, with goals from Kade Howarth (two), Joe Maw and Jack Wallace, defeated Wythenshawe Town 4-2 in the last 16 of the competition.
Heyside trailed 2-0 at one stage, but recovered to wreck Town’s unbeaten run which had stretched back two years.
Juniors under-15s can also look forward to the quarter-finals after they defeated AFC Stanley 3-0. Matty Kapica (two) and Kamil Turecki got the all-important goals.
But a brilliant goalkeeping display from James Lord could not save the under-16s from going out in a pulsating last-16 clash against Urmston Town.
Lord made a string of fine saves while strikers Matthew Dell and Tom Shaw went close in a goalless first half.
Then Lord’s only mistake of the day was punished when he failed to gather a free-kick at the second attempt and the visitors tested Lord several more times before two more goals late on produced a 3-0 scoreline that did little justice to Heyside’s endeavour.
MATTY Singleton scored the consolation goal for Chaddy End under-15s, who were beaten 2-1 by Medlock Rangers in round three.
But the under-11s, thanks to efforts from JJ Fraay and Robbie Wilkinson, overcame Unicorn Athletic 2-1.
CHADDERTON Juniors FC under-11s suffered a last-16 exit in the County Cup.
They were beaten 3-1 by AFC Stanley, with Harry Cooper scoring the consolation.
AVRO under-14s, returning from a six-week lay-off, enjoyed a 3-0 victory over Urmston Meadowside Eagles.
Tom Speat, Ryan Richards and Kane Wallwork got the goals in the round three clash, but the club’s under-11s lost 3-1 to Middleton Boys after extra time.
BROADWAY Celtic under-16s booked their place in the last-eight with a hard-fought 2-1 extra-time win over Wythenshawe Town.
An early goal from James Leech put Celtic ahead, but Wythenshawe began to dominate and it was no surprise when they equalised before the break.
Goalless in the second half, a penalty shoot-out was looming when Adam Collins fired home from 25 yards.
DYLAN Marshall and Kurt Ingham bagged a brace apiece as Failsworth Town under-14s brushed aside Urmston Meadowside 4-0.
North Bury Junior League
CHADDY Hoppers under-16s cruised into the next round of the North Bury Junior League Cup with an impressive 6-1 win over Marauder Hawks.

It was a different story for Hoppers under-13s Blue, who succumbed 5-1 to Middleton Boys despite leading 1-0 at half-time.
And the Red team were beaten 5-2 by Little Lever in a top-of-the-table clash.
SAM Jackson’s double strike was in vain as Chadderton Park Cobras under-11s were beaten 4-2 by Moston Valley.
