INDOOR CRICKET:

SOMETHING had to give when Saddleworth One and Woodhouses went head to head in the Oldham Cricket Development Group’s under-11s Indoor League.

And it was Saddleworth who came out on top by virtue of a 12-run win at the Millennium Centre.

Taking first knock, opener James Howard made 11 and William Wright 16 as Saddleworth amassed 251 for four. Sam Hanrahan was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets for just three runs.

In reply, excellent bowling by Aaron Scholes (two wickets for no runs), plus a stunning catch by the same player, restricted Woodhouses to 239 for four.

Royton One returned to winning ways against Glodwick One in the evening’s second game. Batting first, Royton made 248 for three. The Warren Lane outfit lost one wicket in reply, but they were restricted to 222.

The final game saw Heyside record an impressive victory over Glodwick Alt.

Heyside registered a superb 264 for two from their six overs, which proved too many for an improving Alt side, who made 201 for eight but were hampered by some silly run outs.

Shaw locked horns with Saddleworth Two at the Oldham Sports Centre.

The match turned out to be a thriller, with Shaw securing victory by just two runs.

The Holebottom Clough lads made 233 for six, thanks largely to Jacob Clarke, who made 17. Saddleworth needed 19 runs off the last over for victory, but they fell agonisingly short of their target on 231 for eight. Matthew Ashfield took two for 14.

Mason Hey, of Royton Two, was understandably delighted after recording a first hat-trick of the season in the defeat of Uppermill.

The youngster picked up three of the four wickets to fall as ’Mill were limited to 219 for four.

Royton were always in command, finishing on 258 for two.

Austerlands had to concede their fixture to Glodwick Two, but both teams will be back in action on Friday.
