Try-happy Waterhead storm into semi-finals

RUGBY: WATERHEAD under-16s stormed into the semi-finals of the North-West Counties Edge Hill Cup with a 52-4 battering of Latchford Albion Giants.

The home team's nine tries were posted by eight different players and Latchford were undone by the pace, variety and quality of a Waterhead team keen to put last week's National Cup reverse behind them.

Waterhead led 30-0 at half-time and scored their tries through Luke Dufeu (two), Jack Cooke, Ben Whitehead, Jake Shoel, Adam Steeple, Chris Yarwood, Kyle Mayall and Nathan Mason. Whitehead kicked eight goals.


St Anne’s win free-scoring derby clash

OLDHAM St Anne's under-nines came out on top in their derby duel with Higginshaw, winning by 12 tries to six.

Saints scored their tries through Danny Fish (four), Asa France (two), Luke Smith (two), Alfie Baldwin, Jack Haynes, Max Flanagan and Ben Ivell.

Higginshaw worked hard and produced some powerful runs down the middle.


White leads Rangers’ cup romp

SADDLEWORTH Rangers under-15s have secured a place in the semi-finals of the North-West Counties Cup.

Rangers saw off Pilkington Recs 40-12 with tries from Ben White (three), Lewis Galbraith (two), Jack Connor, Ryan Maneely and Chris Bolton. Josh Bradbury added four conversions for dominant Rangers.


Elijah helps to slay Dragons

ELIJAH Wolstenholme was player-of-the-match for Saddleworth Rangers under-nines, who defeated Atherton Dragons by eight tries to two.

The most improved Rangers player on show was Jack Harrison-Brown, while Josh Yarwood was the top tackler.


Rhinos display fighting spirit

SHAW Rhinos under-16s, playing with only 12 men, lost 30-20 at Moss Bank Bulldogs.

The team put up an outstanding, determined show and never gave up.
