YOUTH CRICKET: ROYTON Two were the first side this season not to lose a wicket in the Oldham Cricket Development Group under-11s Indoor League — but they were unable to avoid defeat.
The Glebe Street outfit amassed 240 against Saddleworth Two, who replied with an aggressive 275 for three.
Glodwick Two’s bowlers were on top in the second match at the Oldham Sports Centre.
They picked up 10 wickets in Uppermill’s total of 220, before they eased to victory on 267 for three.
Aaron Birtwhistle, with 11, showed excellent composure to guide Shaw to a thrilling three-run win over Austerlands, who made 227 for six thanks to 14 from Elliot Connor. Five Shaw bowlers claimed wickets.
Saddleworth One cruised to a 54-run victory over Glodwick Alt at the Millennium Centre.
James Howard won his first toss of the season and asked Glodwick to bat, and they were restricted to 220 for four. Debutant Sol Pegler took two wickets.
Saddleworth were never in any danger as they made 274 for two. William Wright top-scored with 19.
Callum Hendrick and Lewis Bardsley struck 13 apiece in Heyside’s total of 233 for three against Glodwick One, who were limited to 213 for five. Bradley Flit claimed three of the wickets to fall.
Steady contributions throughout with the bat saw Woodhouses to victory over Royton One.
Josh Lees and James Todd took a wicket apiece as Royton scored 244 for two.
It was nip and tuck in the second innings, before Woodhouses emerged victorious on 257 for one.
