Requiring a point against their under-16s side, they did what they had to do by securing a 2-2 draw.

HANNAH Rigby scored her first goal for Heyside Angels under-11s Whites, who brushed aside Oldham Athletic 9-1.

Katie Halligan, with four, Lavinia Whitehead (two), Ella Rigby and Molly Taylor were also on target.

Heyside let it slip in thriller

HEYSIDE Juniors under-16s took the first points of the Rochdale and Oldham Youth League season off Littleborough in a 3-3 draw at Hare Hill.

But it could have been even better for the visitors, who were 3-0 up inside the first 10 minutes.

Jack Hilton, Stefan Whaley and Tom Shaw all found the net following flowing football, but two mix-ups at the back just before the break gave the home side hope and they levelled after more hesitation in the Heyside defence on the hour.

Jack Hilton hit the crossbar and James Allen forced a fine save from the home ’keeper as Heyside finished the stronger, but they were unable to find the win that would have put them back in the title race.

A hat-trick from Kyle Townsend on debut and an own goal sealed a 4-2 win for Heyside’s under-15s team against Northside.

CHADDERTON Juniors FC under-13s and Shaw Stars fought out a goalless draw — but there was no shortage of excitement.

The woodwork prevented Shaw from taking an early lead, while a rasping drive from Adam Marsden rattled the crossbar for their opponents.

Chadderton missed a penalty and despite both sides creating plenty of chances, they had to settle for a point apiece.

A MATTHEW Singleton hat-trick and a Sam Bowles double clinched a 5-2 win for Chaddy End under-15s against Rochdale St Clement’s.

HAYDEN Clarke, Harry Southern and Jack Johnson were on target for Crompton Villa under-13s in a 3-1 victory over Heywood Rangers.

Oldham’s sights on last four

OLDHAM under-14s are fixing their sights on the semi-finals of the Greater Manchester Schools’ Talbot Cup.

The town team go to Trafford on Saturday for a last-eight tie (kick-off 10.30am).

Oldham, who beat their opponents 1-0 in a league clash earlier in the season, reached this stage of the competition thanks to a comfortable 3-0 win over Tameside.

Salford await the winners in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Oldham under-15s’ triple-header against Manchester was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at the Lancaster Club.

They will try again on Saturday, this time with Manchester the hosts (10.30am).

League points are up for grabs as well as a place in the last four of County Cup and a first-round berth in the North-West Alder-Owen Trophy.
