Shaw keep close rivals at bay

INDOOR CRICKET:
SHAW maintained their unbeaten record in the Oldham Cricket Development Group under-11s Indoor League with a six-run win over nearest rivals Saddleworth One.
Asked to bat first at the Oldham Sports Centre, Shaw made 254 for two. William Kay picked up both wickets.
The Well-i-Hole club made a strong start to their innings thanks to a belligerent 28 from James Howard.
But he struggled for support and wickets for Tom Ashworth, Matthew Barlow and Matthew Gibson restricted Saddleworth One to 248 for five.
James Fish (25) and Jack Marland (23) were among the runs for Saddleworth Two, who made 265 against Woodhouses. Jack Marriott claimed three of the six wickets to fall.
Robert Temple bagged a brace of wickets in reply as ’Houses were limited to 248 for four. Josh Lees top-scored with 20.
Royton Two overcame Glodwick Alt by 37 runs. The scores: Glodwick Alt 226 for four; Royton Two 266 for three.
Club bragging rights were at stake when Glodwick One and Glodwick Two went head to head at the Oldham Millennium Centre.
And the ‘Ones’ nicked it thanks to Tom Jones’ last-over heroics.
Glodwick Two, with Qasim Lohdi making 20, amassed an impressive 259 for two. Max Yeo took both wickets.
But the ‘Ones’, with Jones hitting a fine 24, won by four runs after keeping all their wickets intact.
The first match of the evening saw Austerlands (223 for six) record a three-run victory over Heyside, who completed their overs on 220 for five.
Royton One completed a double for the Paddock club with a comfortable 40-run win against Uppermill who, after winning the toss and taking first knock, reached 224 for five.
Declan Bradbury then struck 16 as his side cruised to 264 for three.
CHRIS HIGHTON, the Lancashire Cricket Board Community Co-ordinator, is holding coaching sessions for children from seven to 11 years of age at Failsworth Sports Centre every Thursday until April 29 (5pm to 6pm).
