FOOTBALL:
HOLLINWOOD under-13s clinched silverware glory in their debut season.
They lifted the Tameside and District Junior League Cup after an impressive 5-0 defeat of Medlock Whites at Ashton United.
Despite dominating the first half, Hollinwood only had a Jack Holmes goal as a reward for their efforts.
But the introduction of Liam Marchington paid dividends in the second half as he scored two goals in a 15-minute spell.
Jake Jones and an own goal accounted for Hollinwood’s tally.
BUT Chadderton Juniors FC under-16s suffered more League Cup final pain — they were beaten in last year’s final — as they lost 2-1 to Denton Phoenix.
Behind after 40 seconds, Chadderton regrouped and carried the game to their opponents, drawing level just after the restart thanks to Mike Taylor.
But they were again left empty-handed when Phoenix nosed ahead for a second time.
