Aquatics youngsters among the medals

THE boys of Hulme Grammar School were crowned overall champions at the Oldham Schools Swimming Championships and the various age group performers are pictured with the trophy.
SWIMMING:
A group of swimmers from Oldham Aquatics Advanced Training Squad took part in the Derventio Excel Open Meet 2010 held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield.
Competing against teams from as far afield as the Isle of Man and Dubai, Oldham swimmers were among the medals and claimed a host of personal best times.
In the 11-years age group, Kyle Clegg collected a silver medal in the 100 metre breaststroke event, adding a bronze in the 400 freestyle.
Olivia Askew had a fine meet, winning gold in the 200 freestyle together with a hat-trick of silvers in the 50 and 100 butterfly together and the 50 freestyle event, adding a bronze in the 100.
To cap off a fine meet, Olivia obtained her National Qualifying Time in the 100 butterfly event.
For the boys in this age group, Brad Ratcliffe continues to impress, winning gold in the 50 freestyle and adding a silver in the 100, together with a bronze in the 100 butterfly.
In the 13-years age group, Francesca Chiappe led the way by collecting a gold medal in the 100 freestyle, adding a pair of silvers in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly events.
Team-mate Nicola Farrell also added a bronze medal to the tally in the 50 backstroke while, for the boys, Saul Moorcroft collected a gold medal with a fine swim in the 50 breaststroke.
