TABLE TENNIS: ANDREW TARPEY, of Oldham Hulme Grammar School, will represent Greater Manchester at this weekend’s Butterfly Schools’ Individual table tennis championship national finals.
More than 300 players, representing 50 counties, will take part at The Dome, Doncaster, on Saturday, in the largest one-day event in the table tennis calendar in England.
Competitions are held at under-11, 13, 16 and 19 level for both boys and girls and Andrew - the Oldham Schools’ under-18s champion - qualified by winning the Greater Manchester heat.
Following this weekend’s event, the English Schools Table Tennis Association will select representative teams to play in the Invitation International, to be staged in Ireland in June, when teams from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Guernsey and the Isle of Man will battle it out.
