FOOTBALL: CHADDERTON FC Juniors under-16s have been crowned champions of the Tameside and District Junior League for the second time in three seasons.
Having finished runners-up at the end of the last campaign, they reclaimed the crown with a 2-0 victory at home to Hopwood Hall.
Mike Taylor and Tom Shaw scored the vital goals that confirmed the return of the ‘top dogs’ tag.
Proud manager Leland Mayall said: “Having finished runners-up in both the league and cup last season the lads have shown tremendous character to come back and win the league again, having won it as under-14s.
“We now have a tough challenge cup semi-final to look forward to on Saturday against Mossley, so we still have our sights on a possible double!”
Oldham eye strong finish
Oldham under-14s will bid to narrow the gap at the top when they go head-to-head with lowly Rochdale in the Greater Manchester Schools’ League at the Lancaster Club on Saturday.
They have suffered mixed fortunes throughout the campaign but can still finish in runners-up spot if they win all four of their remaining matches.
Bolton currently top the table on 22 points with just two games left to play against Manchester and Oldham.
After Saturday’s game, which kicks off at 10.30am, Bolton, Bury and Wigan remain in Oldham’s sights.
They could draw level with second-placed Salford, who have already completed their league fixtures on 19 points, if they can string together a winning sequence between now and the end of the campaign.
Oldham have been short of match practice since running out narrow 1-0 winners against a Leeds side in a challenge game last month.
But they should go into this weekend’s game full of confidence against Rochdale, who are without a point.
HONOURS were even as 3D Dynamos under-13s drew 3-3 with Medlock Blacks in a friendly, Josh Lindsay (two) and Danny Laithwaite with the Dynamos goals.
Dynamos under-12s lost 5-2 at N J Wythenshawe.
Aaron Rogers and Joe Connolly found the net.
MOSTON Brook under-15s beat Hopwood Lads 4-2 courtesy of a Jordan Holt brace and goals from Billy Goodwin and Devaughn Bridge in the Rochdale and Oldham Youth League.
Sunday’s cup match was postponed as three Brook players couldn’t get back to England in time due to the well documented volcanic ash. It has been re-arranged for Sunday.
Heyside Juniors under-15s beat Meanwood 2-1 thanks to Kyle Townsend and Luke Graham goals. And they beat Northside 3-1 with Townsend, Graham and Jack Warburton doing the business.
CROMPTON Villa under-13s lost 4-1 away to Chadderton FC, Adam Crossman with the only goal for the Villains.
MATTHEW Singleton got a brace and Adam Mullins completed the scoring when on-song Chaddy End under-15s beat Chadderton 3-1.
CHADDY Hoppers Blue under-13s hit back from 3-1 down to claim a 3-3 draw against Westbury in the North Bury Junior League.
Elliot Moss, Nathan Randle and Jack Johnson got the goals in an entertaining encounter.
