Moorside get season off to winning start

YOUTH CRICKET:
THE under-17s got their season under way in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League and it was a winning start for Moorside.
Opponents Saddleworth recorded 77 for six but Moorside reached their target for the loss of just four wickets.
Milnrow beat Uppermill with nine balls to spare.
Uppermill batted first and ended on 74 for seven, with James Young claiming five for 12.
Despite three early wickets from Steve Broadbent, Milnrow eased home.
Shaw stormed to 123 for four, with Stayley only making 58 for nine in reply.
Austerlands made 98 for eight before dismissing Bamford Fieldhouse for 61, while it was a tie between Friarmere and Droylsden.
Friarmere replied to Droylsden’s 110 for six by finishing on 110 for two.
Heyside under-15s beat Shaw ‘B’ at Little Hey.
Jack Warburton top scored with 27 as they compiled 109 for seven.
Shaw ‘B’ replied with 76 for eight.
Austerlands sealed victory at Stayley, who struggled to 57 for seven.
In reply, Oliver Monaghan scored 23 as Austerlands reached 58 for three.
Royton saw off Saddleworth ‘B’ with D Bardsley 50 not out (retired) helping them post 146 for four in 20 overs.
Saddleworth ‘B’ replied with 114 for six. Harry Gee top-scored with 43.
Uppermill got the better of Moorside as Jake Crowther’s 51 not out (retired) put them on their way to 118 for five.
Moorside were just 10 runs short of victory, reaching 109 for seven.
In a reduced 16 over game Friarmere made 55 for six. Bamford beat them with just three balls to spare.
Saddleworth ‘A’ failed to raise a team. Shaw ‘A’ took the points.
In the under-13s, Aaron Tesz scored 33 for Royton against Stalybridge St Paul’s on their way to 99 for three. St Paul’s replied with 27 for five.
Glodwick got the better of Droylsden. Chasing just 54, they reached 56 for three to take the points.
Bamford mustered 140 for two, and Heyside fell short with 126 for one.
Moorside made 113 for six, while opponents Austerlands replied with 53 all out.
