YOUNGSTERS have exceeded expectations at Royton Amateur Swimming and Waterpolo Club.

In what will be remembered as a vintage season for honours, three different age groups got their hands on waterpolo trophies.

The under-16s managed to go the entire campaign unbeaten in all competitions. They won the Manchester and District League and the Bolton and District Cup.

Royton duo Elliot Chadderton and Matthew Flint were the league’s top scorers.

The under-14s, inspired by their peers, swept to victory in the Manchester and District Cup.

And not to be outdone, the under-12s topped the Bolton and District League title before claiming the Bolton and District Cup.

Michelle Flint, waterpolo secretary at the club, said: “The teams have performed to an even higher level than we had anticipated.

“Some of our under-12s were an entire school year below opposition players, so to go ahead and win two cups was a magnificent achievement.

“The under-14s showed all of their best qualities to get a trophy.

“As for the under-16s, they just kept the consistency going throughout the season, it was a superb effort all round.”

Royton are still looking for new members to join at all age groups.

To celebrate their centenary year they have joined the senior set-up for the first time in more than two decades.
