Shield tie goes right to the wire

CRICKET: The first round of the Leicester Shield brought plenty of entertainment for the under-15s.

At Saddleworth ‘B’, Ben Corbett’s 29 helped the hosts to 91 for four in a reduced 16-over match against Bamford Fieldhouse.

Callum Openshaw’s 26 ensured the vistiors were in the hunt. They needed three runs off the last ball for victory, but could only manage one.

Tom Needham-Barton on 49 and Lawrie Hughes, 50 not out (retired), helped Shaw ‘A’ reach 127 for one against Glodwick.

JJ Rigby’s 46 wasn’t enough as the home side could only reach 107.

Moorside made light work of Droylsden by dismissing them for 86 in a 10-wicket victory.
Austerlands reached 115 for six against Saddleworth ‘A’, who were bowled out for 77.

Heyside reached their target of 55 at Friarmere without loss.

Uppermill made 137 for five to beat Stayley, who finished on 123 for four.

Second round draw-

Saddleworth ‘B’ v Heyside; Shaw ‘A’ v Shaw ‘B’; Uppermill v Royton; Moorside v Austerlands.


P Collum recorded 53 not out for Saddleworth to help them to 101 for two in the under-17s division, but Shaw clinched victory on 103 for two, M Chadwick recording a fine 52 not out.

Uppermill, who made 62 for seven, lost to Stayley by nine wickets.

Austerlands beat Milnrow, who scored 93 for six, with two balls to spare by making 94 for nine.

Droylsden scored 91 for four, beating Bamford’s 82 for seven.

Friarmere put 75 for five on the board but Glodwick reached their target with seven wickets to spare.

In the under-13s division, Saddleworth ‘A’ finished on 127 with three wickets in hand against Austerlands, who fell short of the target on 68 for six.

Royton made 137 for four against Uppermill, who managed just 52 for four.

Shaw were dismissed for 80 by Bamford, who had recorded 155 for six.

Saddleworth ‘B’ scored 110 for one against Droylsden, who lost all their wickets for 96.

Glodwick made 75 for eight against Heyside, who reached the target with eight wickets in hand.

Tameside and District League

Saddleworth under-10s were among the runs in the Tameside and District League.

They made 313 for five against Ashton, with Jack Marland making 40.

Ashton ended on 203, with two wickets remaining.

Saddleworth under-11s raced to 338 for three at Woodhouses, who replied with 221 for nine.

Lancashire County League

Greenfield under-15s are through to the LCB regional cup final.

They made 120 for five against Royton — Toby Jones scored 51 — before their opponents replying with 72 for seven.

In league action, Greenfield under-13s restricted Woodhouses to 51 for nine before Ollie Higgins’ 25 helped them to a nine-wicket triumph.
