FOOTBALL:
COACH Kevin Dunkerley is opening a new league at Failsworth Soccer Centre.
Junior Soccer League (JSL), which will run from June 5 to August 28, is designed to give under sevens, eights, nines and 10s who might not have much experience of playing for a team or in a league, the chance to enjoy top facilities in a friendly environment.
There will be 48 teams, with 12 in each age category.
Dunkerley said: “JSL aims to provide an opportunity for young children to participate in football within a modern, welcoming, age appropriate environment that instils friendship, respect, sportsmanship, team work, confidence and goal achievement.
“The imminent World Cup competition, which will coincide with the launch of JSL, will ensure that children’s interest and imagination will be captured to maximum effect.
“They will want to play football and will be asking their parents to make it happen for them.”
Children can look forward to a play-off system designed to keep every team’s season interesting until the end, and the use of 3G pitches.
The league is available to boys and girls aged 6-10.
No previous experience or current involvement with an established team is necessary.
Deadline for applications is May 28.
