Hosts dominant in Shield

HOME comforts were the order of the day as under-17s sides met in the Romida Shield first round.

All four hosts progressed to the next stage of the competition.

Despite being bowled out for 75, Friarmere bowled 20 tidy overs to restrict opponents Bamford Fieldhouse to 74 for seven.

Saddleworth progress after recording 98 for seven, and seeing Droylsden fall 28 runs short of the target.

Austerlands put 126 for five on the board before visitors Uppermill ended 20 adrift for the loss of nine wickets.

Glodwick recorded 90 for four only to see Moorside reach the target with five wickets in hand.

Heyside under-15s maintained their 100-per-cent record with victory over Royton.

Their winning target was 90, with Jordan Whyatt scoring 39 not out.

Saddleworth ‘A’s 150 for five, inspired by Ben Rothery’s 33 not out, was too big an ask for Stayley, who were bowled out for 47.

At Holebottom Clough, Shaw ‘B’ had only mustered 86 as the last wicket fell, and Saddleworth ‘B’ only lost one man before the target was reached.

Shaw ‘A’ inflicted defeat on Austerlands.

Batting first, Shaw ‘A’ totalled 111 for five.

Ten runs were required with four overs left, but Austerlands fell three runs shy of the target.

Bamford enjoyed a win at home to Glodwick, reaching 115 for four before Glodwick finished 34 short.

Adil Mahmood scored 51 not out as Friarmere raced to 125 for four against Moorside, who were restricted to 115 for seven.

Droylsden were set a total of 113 by Uppermill and they achieved it for the loss of three wickets.

Tameside and District League

Saddleworth under-10s scored 292 for four at Denton, Richard Wilson and Flynn Bradley getting 20 apiece.

Saddleworth’s William Kay took three for six as the hosts ended 64 short of the target.
