CRICKET: Saddleworth ‘B’ under-15s and Glodwick shared the points in a thrilling Saddleworth and District Cricket League encounter.
Glodwick, thanks to 50 not out (retired) from Zaheeb Mirza, reached 126 for two in their 20 overs.
Saddleworth ‘B’ hit back and needed five to win from the last ball, but a scrambled all-run four ensured honours were even.
Leaders Heyside suffered their first defeat of the season at Friarmere.
Heyside were restricted to 95 for six in their 20 overs and in reply Friarmere reached the total they required for the loss of two wickets, with Adil Mahmood top scoring on 36 and also taking three for 15.
This defeat allowed Shaw ‘A’ to take top spot with a comfortable victory at Stayley.
The hosts were bowled out for 66 and Shaw ‘A’ made it to 67 with nine wickets in hand, Adam Temple contributing 34.
Uppermill and Bamford Fieldhouse enjoyed a high-scoring game.
Callum Openshaw’s 50 not out (ret) helped Bamford to 169 for three.
Uppermill never gave up but could only reach 151 for three in reply.
Royton raced to an easy victory at Shaw ‘B’.
Kurran Hussain’s 50 not out (ret) helped the visitors post 136 for three prior to the home side falling 64 runs short of the target when the final wicket fell.
In the under-17s category, Saddleworth saw off Uppermill after reaching their target of 110 for the loss of two wickets.
Stayley struggled to 84 for eight and opponents Austerlands beat that total with seven wickets in hand.
Bamford dismissed Glowick for 67 but then crumbled to 56 all out.
Heyside posted 63 for seven but opponents Shaw reached their goal for the loss of three wickets.
J Allot’s 50 not out helped Friarmere to 134 for two against Moorside, who fell 17 runs shy of victory.
Leg spinner Ben Ingham claimed five for 22 for Friarmere.
Droylsden finished on 81 for five against Milnrow, who lost four wickets on their way to victory.
Bamford, Royton and Saddleworth ‘A’ are all unbeaten in this year’s under-13 division.
Bamford earned an eight-wicket win over Austerlands, who were all out for 65.
Saddleworth ‘A’ recorded 157 for two against Uppermill. James Howard was unbeaten on 30.
Uppermill fell 89 runs short of the target, for the loss of four wickets.
Royton’s 91 for two proved just enough to beat Droylsden.
The final over started with Droylsden needing 10 for victory.
Luke Canaris hit the first ball for four but was then caught on the boundary going for a repeat, handing Royton a five-run triumph.
Glodwick’s James Holt and Jamie Symonds took six wickets and scored 43 runs between them in the victory over Shaw.
Heyside posted 92 for three before dismissing Moorside for 73.
