Expert coaching paying dividends

SUSAN Moncrieff, who holds the British record for the high jump at 1.95 metres and took silver in the 2002 Commonwealth Games, is offering expert help to young members of the Oldham and Royton Harriers.
She is providing tips to the group in the basics of hurdling, long jump and high jump as part of the England Athletics’ ‘Flying Coaches Programme’.
And the benefits of the expert tuition are already paying off at track and field meetings.
The young athletes are more confident and also volunteer for events which have been traditionally difficult to fill.
As a result, Harriers have won two meetings in the UK Athletics’ Young Athletes League at Deeside and Stockport.
The ‘Flying Coach Programme’ is being delivered across England to benefit clubs, coaches and athletes of all abilities, across all disciplines.
Under the scheme, top coaches work directly with club coaches and assist with the development of their athletes.
