CRICKET: OLDHAM under-15s bounced back from their reverse against Tameside as they saw off the challenge of Bury in the Lancashire Schools’ Merit League.
A fine start saw Oldham amass 260 for three, Connor Hey (Royton) leading the way with a superb 108.
He was supported well by Liam Parfitt (Greenfield), who chipped in with half a century.
Bury came within two runs of victory, finishing on 259 for seven in the game at Woodhouses.
Jordan Whyatt (Heyside) proved to be the pick of the Oldham attack, claiming two for 39 in a tense climax.
Oldham under-13s beat Bury’s younger representative side by three runs in the Merit League at Elton.
They posted 81 for nine, Brad Cunningham (Delph) and Tom Robinson (Heyside) top scoring with 16 not out and 10 not out respectively.
Oldham probably thought they had done more than enough to earn the victory but they were given a fright when Bury came close to reaching their goal, before being dismissed for 78.
Aaron Tesz (Royton) took five for 17 for Oldham.
