‘A’ team complete Shield mission

CRICKET: SADDLEWORTH and District Cricket League under-15s battled it out in the quarter-finals of the Leicester Shield.

Austerlands overcame Moorside after recording 93 for seven. They dismissed their opponents for 60, Ollie Monaghan

claiming three for 14.

Shaw ‘A’ took the bragging rights against Shaw ‘B’.

The ‘A’ team posted 172 for four, Tom Needham-Barton retiring on 50, before the ‘B’ side fell 66 runs short of their target when the overs ended.

Saddleworth ‘B’ scored 103 for nine against Heyside, who were nine runs short of their goal.

Joe Crowther’s 50 (retired) was the backbone of Uppermill’s 96 all out, but opponents Royton won with seven wickets in hand.

Semi-final draw: Saddleworth ‘B’ v Austerlands; Royton v Shaw ‘A’.

Ties to be played on Thursday, July 8.

In the under-13s category, Austerlands recorded 89 all out before dismissing Stalybridge St Paul’s, who were still 14 runs short of their target when the last wicket fell.

Joe Smith-Butler and Ben Garside made 30 each as leaders Bamford Fieldhouse finished on 121 for six against Saddleworth ‘B’, who ran out of overs on 96 for six.

J Marland contributed 16 not out for Saddleworth.




Oliver in fine form



OLDHAM under-13s earned five-wicket win over Tameside with just five balls to spare in the Lancashire Schools’ Merit League.



Tameside were restricted to 141 for five. Oliver Higgins (Greenfield) scored 60 to help steer Oldham to victory.

Oldham under-11s finished on 91 for four against Tameside, who reached their target with two wickets in hand. James Howard’s performance for Oldham stood out, as the Saddleworth star posted an unbeaten 54.
