Jessica inspires Oldham

SWIMMING: OLDHAM Amateur Swimming Club’s splashing start to the season continued with a hard fought victory over hosts Royton in the Central Lancashire Intermediate League.
In the girls’ 15 and under category, Jessica Fullalove triumphed in the 50 metre backstroke and freestyle, before finishing runner-up in butterfly.
Chloe Basnett clinched the breastroke, while Rhiannon Prestage was second in backstroke and freestyle.
Ian Martin led the way in 50m backstroke, adding a second place finish in breaststroke. Sam Hill was runner-up in the 50m freestyle and butterfly.
In 13 years and under, Nicola Farrell and Sara Loft got a one-two finish in the 50m backstroke and freestyle, as did Caitlin Wareing and Olivia Askew in butterfly and breaststroke.
Kyle Clegg came second in the 50m breaststroke.
Other results- Under-11s: Emma-lee Poole, first, 50m freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke; Amy Cunningham, second, backstroke and breaststroke; Dylan Arzoni, first, freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, second, butterfly; Daniel Fearnley, first, butterfly, second, freestyle.
In relays, the 15 years and under team comprising Hannah, Jessica, Rhiannon and Chloe claimed the medley and freestyle events.
Boys Sam, Ian, Joe Knight and Peter Cunningham won the freestyle.
Nicola, Sara, Caitlin and Olivia clinched both of the girls’ 13 and under events.
The final event of the evening was the mixed relay, comprising one boy and one girl from each age group.
Emma, Dylan, Olivia, Kyle, Jessica and Ian won, making the final score Royton 143, Oldham 169.
Other winners- Under-11s: Dylan, Jamie Marsden, Henry Coverley and Daniel Fearnley, freestyle and
medley.
Golden boy’s medal magic
OLDHAM Aquatics Club made waves at the North-West Youth Swimming Championships in Liverpool.
Danny Whitham (17) clinched gold in the 50-metre freestyle.
Adam Shipp (23) earned a bronze in open age 100m breaststroke, while 18-year-old Matt Shipp and Sophie Kenny (16) reached seven finals between them.
Charlotte Ashworth and Hannah Clegg (both 14) recorded new personal bests in the 400m freestyle, before Matt followed suit in the 200m freestyle.
George Morreal progressed to two finals in the 50m and 200m backstroke.
