LAST season’s double-winners Austerlands are on course to retain the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s under-17s Romida Trophy.

The Thorpe Lane outfit are through to the semi-finals of the competition after a five-wicket defeat of Saddleworth, who were dismissed for 90.

Austerlands are at home to Friarmere in the last four, with the tie taking place next Wednesday.

Friarmere got the better of Moorside to move a step closer to a final appearance.

Needing 83 to win, they reached their target with three wickets and one over to spare.

The other semi-final showdown is between newcomers Milnrow and Stayley.

Milnrow were too good for Shaw, who were bowled out for 98 in reply to 120 for five.

Lee Goddard was the star of the show for Stayley.

He retired on 50 to help his side to 117 for nine, with opponents Heyside falling 19 runs short of victory.

Heyside posted 132 for three against Saddleworth ‘A’. Jordan Whyatt made 50.

In a close encounter, the visitors were restricted to 128 for six.

Saddleworth ‘B’, featuring a fine 43 from Simon Hardy and three for 14 ffom Jack Boyle, clinched a comfortable 25-run victory at home to Droylsden.

Royton inflicted an emphatic 76-run win at Austerlands.

Kurran Hassan (50) and David Hawthorne (50) laid the platform for Royton’s 131 for one.

Glodwick, in third place, posted a comfortable 90-run win at Stayley.

Zain Lohdi once again reached 50, helping Glodwick to 144 for four.

Friarmere, the hosts, enjoyed a 10-run victory over Uppermill, who were limited to 79 for seven in their 20 overs.

The match between Moorside and Bamford Fieldhouse was wrecked by rain.
