ROYTON and Bamford Fieldhouse will lock horns in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s Under-13s Cup final.
In a low-scoring encounter, Shaw looked to be in the box seat after excellent work in the field restricted Royton to 69 for four. Conor Green claimed three for six.
The Holebottom Clough outfit were 34 for two in reply, but a sudden rush of wickets left them requiring seven off the last over with the final pair at the crease.
The task proved too much, with Patrick Casey picking up the 10th wicket to send Royton through to the final.
Sam Wilson made 21 for Saddleworth ‘A’ (104 for five), but his effort was in vain as Bamford clinched victory thanks to fine performances from Ben Gartside (33) and Alex Willis (24).
It was a different story in the league, with Saddleworth gaining their revenge and at the same time inflicting the first defeat of the season on Bamford.
The Well-i-Hole lads, with James Howard and Wilson each scoring 30, amassed 134 for three. Bamford were bowled out for 115 in reply.
Stalybridge St Paul’s got off the mark at the sixth attempt.
Opponents Glodwick scored 80 for three but, despite losing six wickets in reply, fine batting from Matt Byron (27) and B Watson (22) steered Saints to victory.
A first win of the season continues to elude Uppermill, who suffered an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Moorside.
Beth Garforth struck an unbeaten 30 for Austerlands, who rattled up 108 for three in reply to Saddleworth ‘B’ team’s 107 for nine. Heyside came out on top against Royton.
Jack Graham, Tom Robinson and J Mellor all retired for Heyside in a total of 123 for three.
William Sandiford Mitchell hit back with 31, but Royton fell 20 runs short of victory.
