Harriers’ dashing display

ATHLETICS: WHILE England’s footballers were being knocked out of the World Cup, Oldham and Royton’s young athletes produced some great performances at the Dash Quadrathon.

Charlotte Bowker led the way for the Harriers by taking second place in the under-15 girls’ event.

She recorded excellent new personal bests in the long jump (4.29 metres) and the 100m (13.3 seconds), while she also ran two minutes 37 seconds for the 800m and threw the shot put to 6.48m.

Connor Colleavy also had a good day, coming home fourth in the under-15 boys’ events.
The teenager had a good run in the 800m, finishing third in 2:32. He was fourth in the long jump with 4.04m, fourth in the shot put (6.14m) and sixth in the 100m with a new personal best of 13.9s.

In the boys under-13s category, Christopher Brown posted four personal bests to claim fourth overall.

He was second in the 800m (2:20), runner-up in the 100m (13.2s), first in the long jump (4.62m) and recorded 5.45m in the shot put.

Georgina Ragan was seventh out of 30 entrants in the under-13s girls’ event.

She led from pillar to post to win the 800m in 2:45, clocked 14.2s for the 100m, registered 3.90m in the long jump and had a great throw in the shot put of 5.36m.



IN the UK Athletics Young Athletes League at Oldham, the Harriers team made it three wins out of three with overall victory by more than 150 points from Salford Harriers.

Outstanding on the day were Brown, with a UK Athletics grade one time for his age group in the 1,500m of 4:43.1, and Adam Howard, who recorded a grade two time of 4:23.5 in the under-15 age group 1,500m.
