SHAW ‘A’ extended their lead at the top of the Saddleworth and District Junior League under-15s division with an impressive 50-run victory over nearest rivals Heyside at Holebottom Clough.

Openers Adam Temple (34) and Tom Needham-Barton (28) put on 71, but Heyside’s first change bowler S Ahmed applied the breaks with superb figures of five for 19 from five overs.

Set 106 to win, the derby rivals lost wickets at regular intervals before eventually succumbing to 56 all out — their lowest score of the season so far.

James Mitchell, with three for eight from four overs, was the pick of the Shaw bowlers.

Saddleworth ‘B’ are up to third after they enjoyed an emphatic 81-run success at home to basement boys Stayley.

Tom Fleming and Ben Corbett scored 50 apiece as the Well-i-Hole outfit amassed 166 for two from 20 overs.

Nick Woodhead made a gutsy 45 in Stayley’s total of 85 for five.

Requiring 78 for victory against Friarmere, Austerlands reached their target for the loss of just one wicket.

JJ Rigby made 40 for Glodwick, but his effort was in vain as they suffered a six-run defeat against Saddleworth ‘A’ at Warren Lane.

Shaw ‘B’ registered their second win of the campaign against fellow strugglers Uppermill at Leefields.

The home side reached 120 for seven in 18 overs, with Cameron Sinclair claiming three wickets in the last over.

After losing four wickets, Shaw passed the post with three balls to spare.

Droylsden, including 49 from Evan Wood, also recorded a much-needed win as they got the better of Bamford Fieldhouse by four runs.
