Doyle’s knock is Colts clincher
Date published: 14 July 2010
CRICKET: A FINE display from Woodhouses’ Nick Doyle put paid to the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s hopes of victory in the latest round of matches in the Readers Inter-League Colts Trophy.
The opener struck a superb 84 as the Lancashire County League wrapped up a four-wicket win at Well-i-Hole.
The home side were dismissed for 205, despite Greenfield team-mates Chris Gill and Alex Peters, both with 48, adding 97 for the second wicket.
The Saddleworth League still had 24 overs to go when the third wicket fell, but some carefree batting against the spinners saw their hopes of a big total fade away.
Doyle’s fine knock was followed by a mini-collapse — Peters claimed three for 33 — but an unbeaten 54 from Cheetham Hill’s Zeeshan Mirza guided the Lancashire County League past the post.
The Saddleworth League’s final group ‘A’ game is at home to the Bolton Association on Sunday, August 8.
