Friarmere rock trophy holders

CRICKET: FRIARMERE and Milnrow will go head to head in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s under-17s Romida Trophy.

James Allott scored a gutsy 43 for Friarmere, who caused a big upset by defeating holders and current table-toppers Austerlands (94 for eight) by five wickets.

Stayley were restricted to 70 for seven against Milnrow, who reached their target with nine wickets to spare.

The final will take place on Sunday, August 29, at a venue to be decided.




WITH just three games to go, Shaw ‘A’ are on course to retain the under-15s title.

The Holebottom Clough outfit remain six points clear after an emphatic 63-run victory over Glodwick at Warren Lane.

Adam Temple’s 38 and 31 from Graham Sinclair lifted Shaw to 127 for three.

In reply, Glodwick lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for just 64

Saddleworth ‘B’, in third, got the better of a plucky Uppermill side.

Harry Gee’s 50 supported by Ben Corbett 47 help Saddleworth reach 135.

Uppermill gave it a good go when it was their turn to bat, before eventually falling 21 runs short of victory.

Friarmere coasted to a comfortable nine-wicket win over Saddleworth ‘A’ at Well-i-Hole.

Needing just 113 for victory, Sam Rigby’s 55 and 41 from Kasim Ali saw Friarmere home.

Droylsden and Royton were involved in a high-scoring encounter at Oakfield.

Batting first, the hosts amassed 153 for four, with Alec Jones (52) and Evan Wood (50) impressing.

Royton, thanks to Danny Bardsley’s 44, threatened to win the run chase, but they were dismissed eight runs shy of victory.

Moorside secured a quick and easy nine-wicket win over Shaw ‘B’.

Kieran Scott took an impressive five for 15 from five overs as Shaw crashed to 43 all out.

Austerlands put their Leicester Shield semi-final defeat to bed with a seven-wicket win over Bamford Fieldhouse at Hollin Lane.

Bamford, including 46 from Jonathan Smith-Butler, scored 99 for seven. Harry Ripley claimed four for 16.

Austerlands were always in command. Luke Ellis made 37 as they clinched victory for the loss of three wickets.
