CRICKET: LUKE Rhodes was the star of the show as Uppermill got off the mark at the ninth attempt in the under-13s section of the Saddleworth and District Junior Cricket League.

The Leefields youngster retired on 30 and weighed in with five for 20 in the 28-run win over Droylsden.

Despite losing top run-scorer Jonathan Smith-Butler for a golden duck, leaders Bamford Fieldhouse proved too strong for Glodwick.

The Hollin Lane outfit amassed 131 for four, before dismissing their opponents for just 42.

Saddleworth ‘A’, in second place, recorded an emphatic 10-wicket victory over Stalybridge St Paul’s, who were restricted to 75 for seven.

William Sandiford-Mitchell, Jack Snape and Jordan Royales all retired on 30 as Royton defeated Saddleworth ‘B’ by 65 runs.

And Heyside overcame local rivals Shaw by a 37-run margin to stay third in the table, two adrift of Saddleworth ‘A’.
