HULME roared to victory in the Oldham schools senior doubles boys’ tennis tournament at Failsworth Sports Centre.
James Staddon and Andrew Tarpey saw off the challenge of Saddleworth’s Joe Banks and Ed Crowther in the final and clinched the title with a 6-2 triumph.
An entertaining day of tennis saw pairs battle it out through four group stage matches and four knock-out encounters in the popular annual event.
Organiser Richard Meadowcroft, a PE teacher at Saddleworth School, said: “It was a fantastic occasion and this year the weather was very kind to us.
“I thought our lads had a chance of winning so I wasn’t surprised they got to the final.
“Hulme were better though and deserved the win.”
Meadowcroft believes Saddleworth have a strong chance in 2011.
“It’s onwards and upwards for next year and we’ll give it another go,” he added.
