Oldham clinch place in final

SWIMMING:
OLDHAM Amateur Swimming Club finished first in the Central Lancashire Junior Jubilee League at Tyldsley Pool.
Competing against hosts Tyldsley, Radcliffe and Howe Bridge Aces, Oldham’s youngsters produced a fine performance to claim top spot and qualify for the grand final later in the year.
For the 13 years and under age group, Nicola Farrell triumphed in both the 50-metre freestyle and backstroke events with Sammy Marsden coming second in the boys’ freestyle.
Olivia Askew was double winner in the 12 years and under 50m breaststroke and butterfly, with team-mate Sarah Loft also taking first place in the freestyle and runners-up spot in the backstroke.
The boys in this age group dominated proceedings with Kyle Clegg victorious in both the breaststroke and butterfly, Michael Entwistle in the freestyle and Sammy Ireland in the backstroke event.
In the 11 years and under age group, Emma-Lee Poole won the 50m butterfly, adding a second place in the freestyle event.
Amy Cunningham also took a second place in the breaststroke.
For the boys, Daniel Fearnley claimed second spot in the butterfly and freestyle, with Henry Coverley finishing runner-up in backstroke.
In the 10 years and under age group Dylan Arzoni secured first place in the 25m freestyle and backstroke events, with Max Flanagan runner-up in the butterfly.
For the girls in the same age group, second places were achieved by Olivia Green in the butterfly and freestyle and Rebecca Loft in the backstroke.
The 13 years and under girls team of Caitlin Wareing, Sara Loft, Olivia Askew and Nicola Farrell were double victors in the freestyle and medley relays.
In the 11 years and under relay events Dylan, Henry, Daniel and Max were winners of the boys’ medley relay with the girls’ team of Olivia Green, Amy, Emma and Rebecca taking second in the freestyle and medley events.
The final events were the cannon freestyle relays comprising one swimmer from each of the age groups.
Dylan, Daniel, Kyle and Sammy Marsden came top for the boys, with girls Olivia Green, Amy, Olivia Askew and Nicola finishing second.
Final score: Oldham 121, Howe Bridge 107, Radcliffe 103, Tyldsley 83.
