Saddleworth ‘A’ closed in on the Saddleworth and District Junior Cricket League under-13s title after comfortably defeating Droylsden, a win that took them level at the top of the table with Bamford.

Saddleworth only have to avoid defeat in Sunday’s fixture at Moorside to take the league title.

Shaw ‘A’ can’t be caught but are yet to be confirmed as under-15s champions, as it rests on an appeal from Heyside regarding their defeat to Friarmere in June.

Second-placed Heyside, currently eight points behind the leaders with one game remaining, are questioning the eligibility of one of Friarmere’s players.

A league decision is due later in the week. Should the appeal be successful, Heyside will go joint top.

Action was wiped out by bad weekend weather apart from Shaw ‘B’ against Friarmere, which didn’t take place because Shaw ‘B’ could not raise a team.

Stayley stormed to victory over Heyside in the under-17s category.

Heyside were dismissed for 40 before their opponents won the contest without losing a wicket.

Droylsden earned a comfortable win at the expense of Uppermill.

Daniel Bacon scored 52 (retired) as Uppermill made it to 81 for eight, but Droylsden triumphed for the loss of two wickets.

Moorside were bowled out for 32 by Austerlands, who reached their target with eight wickets to spare.

Tom Rowlands’ 50 inspired Shaw to 140 for two before they dismissed opponents Glodwick for 84.

Milnrow finished their overs on 100 for five prior to Friarmere falling 31 runs short of their goal for the loss of eight wickets.
