PROMISING Perry King took another stride forward in his blossoming boxing career by scooping a double award at the Saba Boxing summer camp.

The classes at Hopwood Hall College, overseen by advanced coaches Jimmy Barker and Frank Coniston, were enjoyed by 28 youngsters from all over Britain, many of whom have already represented their country.

King (15), who lives in Chadderton and trains at Darnhill and Heywood ABC, was one of only four participants to receive Gold National Level.

Recipients demonstrate a good level of all aspects of the sport and strong knowledge of the fundamentals of boxing.

And to top it off, King was also named the most improved boxer on the course, which earned him another piece of silverware.

Proud dad Matthew said: “It is only a select few that receive the Gold National Level - the elite, like the Hattons of this world.

“Perry is getting to that age now where the big fights start to come along.

“Next up is the Amateur Boxing Association schoolboy championships in October and Perry can’t wait to give it his best shot.”
