CRICKET: A YEAR after smashing a century against a team from the most famous cricket club around, Adam Johnson headed to Lord’s to collect his prize.

Adam (18), who studies at Hulme Grammar School, posted an undefeated 111 as Hulme beat Marylebone Cricket Club in the school’s annual game at Werneth.

He collected a shield for his winning performance and a bottle of champagne and joined the rest of the team for their presentation, during the Australia-v-Pakistan tea break.

Proud mum Jean said: ““At the break Adam and the rest of the boys were led on to the pitch for their big moment. Their names were on the scoreboard and could be heard over the public address system, which was wonderful.”

Adam received his award from John Barclays, president of the MCC.

“It was a very proud moment for ourselves and Adam,” said Jean.

The MCC side were outclassed by Hulme against all the odds in last year’s contest.

They were restricted to 22 runs from the first 10 overs by Adam and his team-mates, before declaring on 175 for five.

Adam faced the first delivery of Hulme’s reply and was still at the crease to strike the winning runs as the target was reached with five wickets to spare.

Adam now plays for Flowery Field’s second team under the guidance of coach Dave Williams.
