Basketball: PINT-SIZED prodigy Kameron Shorrocks is earning rave reviews in the basketball world.

Standing at four feet seven inches, the Failsworth teenager, who plays for Oldham Titans, is by no means your stereotypical player.

But what the 13-year-old lacks in height he makes up for in dazzling skills, as he proved once again at the European basketball camp in Barrow, where boys and girls with a love of the sport stay for a week.

Kameron walked away with the MIP (most important player) gong, the coaches’ player of the week and players’ player of the week awards, and as winner of the three-point shoot-out.

Delighted mum Amanda said: “He has a lot of skills so a lack of height isn’t really a problem.

“Kameron is motivated to prove people wrong when they doubt his ability on the court due to the fact he isn’t tall.

“Since joining the Titans six years ago he has gone from strength to strength.

“He attended the camp in Barrow last year when he knew about 10 other people. This year he only knew one lad so he was apprehensive about going.

“But he needn't have been because he made such a good impression and won all those awards.

“The coach, Shaun James, judged him by ability and potential and it is refreshing to see.

“Shaun even went out and bought a brand new basketball kit for him, such was the impression he made.

“I think that did Kameron’s confidence the world of good, there was no anxiety from that moment onwards.”

Ambitious Kameron, who studies at Failsworth Sports College, is eyeing a successful future in the game and dreams of representing his country one day.

Amanda added: “His attitude isn’t that he wants to be a basketball player in the future, it is that he will be one.

“Kameron has already set his heart on doing it for a living.

“He would like nothing more than to represent England and, as a biased mother, I can honestly say he would do his country proud!”
