No final fling for Oldham

CRICKET: OLDHAM under-13s failed to make it through to the final of the Lancashire Schools’ Hacking Cup when they went down by nine wickets to a strong Bolton side in their semi-final clash at Royton.
Manager Chris Highton was forced to field a weakened side with three of his regulars on holiday and a fourth on duty with the county side.
Those absences appeared to take their toll when Oldham, batting first, were bowled out with just 60 runs on the board.
Oldham’s attack bowled admirably under great pressure but to no avail as the visitors comfortably sailed past the target for the loss of a single wicket.
Bolton will now face Rochdale in the final at Leigh on Tuesday, August 31.
Shaw ‘A’ top dogs
SHAW ‘A’ retained the Saddleworth and District under-15s league title for the third consecutive year without a ball being bowled.
A combination of bad weekend weather and a number of clubs being unable to raise a team saw every fixture cancelled.
This meant Shaw ‘A’ finished six points clear at the top of the table.
Their Leicester Shield final clash with Saddleworth ‘B’ takes place on Bank Holiday Monday at Well-i-hole (1.45pm).
