RUGBY:
SADDLEWORTH Rangers under-16s won a topsy-turvy encounter with Chorley Panthers on a glorious day at Churchill Playing Fields.
Both teams defended superbly and there was no score for the first 25 minutes. But Saddleworth finally found a way through.
Jake Coxon showed power and determination to force his way over the line. Ben White converted.
Lewis Galbraith broke away to set up the second converted try for Scott Booth on the wing.
A Chorley player was sin-binned just before the interval, when the score was 12-0.
The second period saw Chorley improve.
They scored four unanswered tries to turn the game on its head and lead 20-12.
But Saddleworth bounced back through a converted Ben White try near the posts, before Galbraith
collected a clever offload from Jack Connor to score the winning try that made it 24-20.
Newly-promoted Rangers under-15s made the perfect start to life in North-West Counties League Division One with an emphatic 36-12 victory at Rylands Sharks.
HIGGINSHAW Eagles got the season off to a winning start with a comfortable
32-6 victory at the expense of Ashton Bears in Wigan. The Eagles ran in six tries through Charlie Eddleston, Nyle Rayburn, Luke Makin, Bradley Turner, Elliot White and Ryan Standring, who added four goals.
