CRICKET: SADDLEWORTH ‘A’ under-13s enjoyed a super season in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
Unbeaten throughout the campaign, they lifted the title after winning 11 matches and drawing one.
Saddleworth ended the season with 42 points out of a possible 44.
James Howard (11) scored 206 runs and was only out once all season.
Daniel Lea averaged 78.5 and Tom Jowle 69 in what was a strong batting order.
Champions Greenfield
GREENFIELD under-17s claimed the Lancashire County League divisional play-off in a rain-affected encounter with Prestwich.
A 3-0 victory in a bowl-out clinched the title as the north and south section winners came head-to-head.
Greenfield made a good start to their reply and reached 34 for no loss from four overs, after their opponents had recorded 191. A downpour meant Prestwich were unable to strike the wickets as the game reached its conclusion. Greenfield were crowned champions.
Called off
THE champions of champions clash between Royton under-15s and Bury in the Central Lancashire League had to be called off due to bad weather.
Royton, who clinched the ‘A’ Division, were supposed to host the match against ‘B’ Division winners Bury.
But the rain intervened and the game will now have to wait until the start of next season, with April provisionally pencilled in.
